FAQ
Concrete Cutting Questions Answered
Use these answers to prepare a clearer call; the final method, controls, availability and price are confirmed for the actual site.
Choosing a method
What service is usually used for a round hole?
Core drilling is the usual starting point. Diameter, depth, orientation, reinforcement, services, access and core handling still need confirmation.
What is used for a doorway through a concrete wall?
Track-mounted wall sawing may suit the straight cuts, with corner treatment and panel removal planned separately. Structural approval can be required.
What is used for a trench across a slab?
Road or floor sawing can form parallel horizontal cuts where the machine has access. Breakout, excavation, installation and reinstatement are separate scope items.
When is wire sawing considered?
For deep, oversized, heavily reinforced or unusual sections where ordinary blade reach or geometry is unsuitable.
Scanning and hidden services
Should concrete be scanned before cutting?
Scanning can be important where services, reinforcement or post-tensioning are uncertain. The decision should consider drawings, the structural context and the limits of the scan.
Does a scan guarantee the area is clear?
No. Results depend on material, depth, congestion, surface access and interpretation. Use scanning with other information and keep an approval hold point.
Who approves a moved hole after scanning?
The party responsible for the service or structural design should approve the revised position.
Site preparation and controls
Will cutting create dust?
Concrete work can create hazardous silica dust. The provider must select suitable controls, which can include effective wet suppression or extraction, isolation and appropriate respiratory protection where required.
What happens to wet-cutting slurry?
It should be contained, collected and disposed of appropriately rather than entering stormwater or spreading across finished areas.
Can fuel-powered saws be used indoors?
Enclosed work raises exhaust and ventilation hazards. The selected power system and controls must suit the environment.
What access details matter?
Provide the narrowest gate or doorway, stairs, slopes, lift limits, working height, parking and the route for equipment and removed concrete.
Prices, removal and reinstatement
Why is there no universal per-metre price?
Depth, method, reinforcement, access, controls, set-up, lifting and disposal can make similar lengths very different jobs.
Does cutting include concrete removal?
Only if included in the scope. Confirm support, breakup or lifting, carrying, loading, transport and disposal.
Does a trench include reinstatement?
Not automatically. Cutting, breakout, excavation, service installation, backfill and concrete replacement should be assigned clearly.
Does the website provide a binding quote?
No. The independent provider confirms its own price, inclusions, GST treatment and terms.
Provider matching
Who carries out the work?
Where a suitable match is available, an independent local provider may accept the enquiry. The provider is not presented as an employee of the website.
What does the 4.5+ Google reference mean?
It is a minimum rating checked for a provider at the time of matching. It is not a rating owned by this website and does not guarantee future performance.
Who confirms availability and the contract?
The provider confirms availability, scope, price and terms and invoices the customer directly.
Is every enquiry guaranteed a provider?
No. Fit and current availability depend on the job and participating providers.
